A Legend from Legends about Gondar

Legends are documents but they may not be accurate ones, as they have to pass from generation to generation by means of word of mouth. Thus this Legend about the foundation of Gondar as a Capital City has a truth in it , when coupled with other serious historical documents , can shade more light on what we are looking to learn more.

Once up on a time ( as every legend begins) Emperor Fusillades (the Founder) decided to go out for hunting. He sat on his favorite horse and set out. As He was moving through the forest, He suddenly saw a bufallo, which He started to Chase.

That Buffalo was not an easy catch . The King became tired from Running after the Buffalo and bent down to drink a little water from a lake. Suddenly something mysterious happened. A Hermit, God Knows where she came from, appeared from the king . She began to speak. Her voice was not like a hermit. It was like an Archangel. She explained to him that God used the buffalo to guide him to this place-where it is his will for the king to start  a new Capital for Ethiopia -Gondar.

The Messenger also promised to the King that whoever lives in this city would enter the kingdom of heaven, even without being baptized. This was ,then, a highly touching message for the king that He immediately decided to move his capital to the appointed place.

Hu thus, summoned his people who lived in his former capital Danqaz and told them to get prepared to move to this place. The same lake where the buffalo disappeared and the Hermit appeared transformed itself in to a ground where the Emperor's Palace is now standing!
