For an island that attracts over one million British and Irish visitors every year it was strange to find that no tourist guide existed when we first upped sticks from the UK and moved here back in 2001. A few British publishers produced guides to the Canaries. Some a combined guide to Lanzarote and the neighbouring island of Fuerteventura. But none dedicating themselves to the promotion of this unique and extraordinary island located just off the coast of Africa.
Lanzarote Guidebook started life s a hobby - as we found to fascinating to tour our new home, photograph and write about all that we ecountered. As the island is not short on attractions - from the eerie lava fields of Timanfaya in the south through to the lush palm packed valleys around Haria in the north.
Initially, we started to place our stories online at www.lanzaroteguidebook.com - and found very quickly that there was a big audience for regulary updated, in-depth content about the island. As there really was no other simialr information source.
By the start of this year we were attracting over 70,000 visitors per month - and decided to make the leap into print. Producing a free 112 page Guidebook that is distributed free to tourists on the island and which can also be downloaded, for free, direct from the website.
Our intention is to provide tourists and holiday makers with the best quality information about Lanzarote - in order to encourage visitors and repeat guests.
