You have probably seen New York City represented in more TV shows and movies than you can count.  You’ve read about it, heard songs about it and probably thought about what it must be like, but if you really want to know how it feels to be in New York City, you have to go there.

New York City is everything you imagine it will be, plus much, much more.  The buildings and sites you think are large and tall are much bigger in real life.  There are more people than you can imagine seeing in one place, and the diversity of the population, the pace at which the city moves and the sounds of non-stop activity are thrilling.

Most people who visit New York City choose to stay in Manhattan, although there is much to see and enjoy in each of New York’s five boroughs.  Manhattan is a popular choice for accommodations because it is close to many of the famous historic and cultural attractions associated with New York City.  It is New York City’s best known area and the home of Times Square.

Manhattan is a cosmopolitan and convenient location and a great place to stay if you want easy access to a variety of drinking and eating establishments as well as shops and other attractions within easy reach.  You can also easily access public transportation from Manhattan if you plan to visit the surrounding areas.  It is a good central location for visiting museums and enjoying theater and live music, as well.

Whether you choose to stay in Manhattan, Brooklyn or any other area within New York City, you will appreciate the choices and variety of accommodations that are available.  You can stay in a clean, budget-style hotel or rent a private or sub-let room for low-cost accommodations.  There are tons of mid-range priced hotel chains as well as privately owned establishments, and you can take your pick of luxury or deluxe resorts and hotels.  Whatever you prefer is close at hand in New York City, and you may find you enjoy staying in more than one location throughout your visit.

Just as there is a tremendous variety of places to stay in New York City, there are countless options when it comes to eating, drinking and nightlife.  Take your pick of ethnic fare, as it is all available in New York.  You can dine on world-class Italian, Indian, Japanese, Lebanese, Greek, Thai or Ethiopian cuisine – and that’s just for starters.  It is entirely possible to eat a different type of ethnic food at each meal during your stay in New York.

Don’t overlook local establishments serving popular fare such as New York style pizza, hot subs and sandwiches from corner delis and even street vendors selling hotdogs and kebabs.  You will be amazed at what you can discover if you keep an open mind in New York City.  The city’s best piece of apple pie could be waiting at a local, low-key diner.

If you’ve spent your day shopping or visiting some of New York’s City’s incredible museums or historic attractions, you’ll probably need to rest and rejuvenate first, but whatever you do, don’t skip New York’s nightlife.  Once again, you have your choice of what to do and enjoy in the city that never sleeps.  If you like live music, take your pick of jazz, blues, rock or even chamber music.  You can see live comedy, go to the theater or just bar hop from one atmosphere to another.  If you like nightclubbing, you’ll love New York’s late nights and loud, expansive dance clubs.

You might find it hard to resist calling it a night before last call at 4:00 am, but you won’t want to miss out on a moment of the action in day-time New York City, either.  There are tons of attractions to visit in New York, from the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island to St. Patrick’s Cathedral and Rockefeller Center.
